A pungent odour polluted the neigbourhood early Monday, leaving inhabitants restless. It was in an attempt to find out where the smell was emanating from that inhabitants stumbled on the corpse. It was said to be in an advanced state of decomposition.
Laure died under unclear circumstances. Relatives told reporters that she had parked out of their family home, citing the presence of evil spirits. Laure is said to have rented a room and went about her life unperturbed.
Neighbours recounted that she was lastly seen in public on Friday November 15. A relative said she stepped out with a bucket and stepped into her house and since then nothing was heard about her whereabouts.
Other accounts said the deceased had become restrictive and was rarelx in touch with people. She was known in her neighbourhood through food that she cooks and sells to inhabitants. Beyond midday yesterday, security forces were yet to evacuate the corpse from the home. Investigations were said to be still on to unmask and understand the circumstances under which the lady died.
Father reacts
The father of the deceased, Christian Moukoko Mouna told journalists Monday that her daughter left home three years back. Mouna said Laure abandoned their family home in Deido accusing him of being a witch.
According to Mouna. his daughter was not in talking terms with him until his demise. The man lamented that he became confused when his daughter started seeing him to be in possession of mystical powers.
Other accounts hold that the deceased had joined a church before becoming too spiritual. She is said to have engaged in prayers most of the time. Some neighbours said she was discovered dead in a posture suggesting she might have died while kneeling down to pray.
There is also a narrative of her having returned from hospital a few days back did not open up to anyone on what was wrong with her..
Collapsed building kills baby
Meanwhile, within the sam Douala IV municipality, a building collapsed over the weekend, killing a baby and wounding the breastfeeding mother. Other household items were destroyed in the process. The wounded woman is still nursing injuries at the Bonasama district hospital.
Inhabitants recounted that the family had been asked to leave the said house. They are said to have resisted, claiming they have no other place to live.
Neighbours told reporters that the mother of the baby survived the accident because she was outside at the time the incident happened.
Security forces were called in to get details on what provoked the building to collapse. Yet, reports hold that the house is located in a risky zone.
