According to US media chief Fort Campbell in the United States, a welcome ceremony is scheduled for March 24 at Hangar 3 of this military base. The base will accommodate more than 100 US soldiers arrived at the end of mission in Cameroon.
These soldiers had been deployed since October 2015 near the Garoua airbase in the northern region of Cameroon. The hundred soldiers belong to the 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division of the US Army.
The deployment was part of an operational force called “Talon”. For 4 years, this so-called “first strike” force has conducted security and construction defense infrastructure missions in order to protect forces and improve strategic relations. According to American media reports, the United States government plans to make Garoua, Cameroon, one of the bases for projecting its forces in the rest of the sub-region.
Recall that in October 2015, former US President Barack Obama announced in Congress that he had decided to deploy a little more than 200 soldiers in Cameroon.A few months later, satellite images revealed the expansion of Garoua Air Base 301, due to the activity of the American contingent. The mission of this part of the contingent ends in March 2019.
